Prof. Thorsen has wide experience in managing large research projects, as the Scientific Project manager in the EU funded FP6 cancer project Angiotargeting, between Nov 1st 2004 and April 1st 2009, and currently being the Platform Leader of the Molecular Imaging Center (MIC) since Jan 1st 2008. Thorsen has established a research group within brain metastasis, focusing on molecular imaging, genomics and therapeutics. He has more than 20 years experience in imaging and preclinical research on animal/tumor models.
Other group members:
Terje Sundstrøm (MD, PhD student), Dept. of Neurosurgery, Haukeland Hospital. His research focuses on in vivo therapy, by screening the compounds we determined from our bioinformatics analysis (see also New Therapies – Drug repurposing). He will also be involved in the upcoming Phase I trial.
Sindre August Horn (MD student, at UoB). His research focuses on increased drug delivery in vivo by opening the blood-brain barrier.
Synnøve Nymark Aasen, (Master student, at UoB), who focuses on in vitro cell labeling of melanoma metastatic cells, using novel theranostic probes.
Nazanin Mola (Master student, at UoB), who works on in vitro treatment of brain metastases using drugs already established for other cancers.
Billy Hill (Master student, from University of Algarve, Portugal), who is performing in vitro drug screening of several new compounds, which we determined from our bioinformatics analysis (see also New Therapies – Drug repurposing).
